I need help figuring value on a SKS

I have a Norinco SKS converted to take the AK47 mags, purchased new (newly imported) in '96.

It is a sporter version (shorter barrel), no bayonet, thumb hole stock with no nicks or scratches in the finish, Side mounted scope mount, 8x40 adjustable zoom Tasco scope, decent stock mounted bi-pod, 8-30 round Chinese mags, 2-5 round mags, the stripper clip feeder, 50 clipper strips, and 340 rounds of ammo.

The gun shop that I now do business with said that it is a rare gun. Not too many of them around any more. I currently have the entire package up for consignment at $450 (started with the rifle assembly @ $300), but I am thinking I am a bit low. The Mags alone are $160 current retail, $80 for the ammo, but the scope and bi-pod are 10+ years old.

It has been a very reliable gun, consistently accurate as assembled out to 200 yards (3 inch groups on imported surplus ammo) for a non trained precision shooter such as myself, no rust or pits in the barrel, and the action is smooth.

The reason I am selling this and my Colt 1911-A1 series 80 is to upgrade to a larger caliber rifle, probably an AR-30 in 338 Lapua.

    Opinions on the SKS value?

    Cool

    .338 Lapua! Very nice cartridge
What, you plan on hunting Elk at 500- 1000 yrds?

Sorry, can't help you much with the value of the SKS but the .338 Lapua ballistics are quite impressive.

First of all your SKS was not converted, it was made that way in China and important that way, It is either a M or D modal.

If it has a thumb hole stock it is most likely a M. or a D if it has a monte carlo stock.
Currently these are running about $350 - $400 depending on condition.

I am a collector but I am not near as educated on the SKS as the guys on this forum http://www.sksboards.com/smf/index.php
I would go there and pose your question.

Good pictures are a must if you really want a good appraisal of the gun.

Thanks for the heads up. I registered over there and we will see what they say. Opinions here are still welcome!

Not a problem at all, Hope I was a little helpful.
If you have your SKS up for sale that would also be a great place to post it for sale. but I think you need 10 post before you can post in the want ads.

I've seen SKS's converted to take AK 30 round mags go for $150. They aren't hard to find or convert for a few bucks.

You mean a Norinco Sporter like this?

    I used to have one.

In excellent condition I would say the rifle alone is worth $350 - mags $80
    and the ammo & strippers $60 - - Total $490

Plus you got a scope and bipod to throw in.
