    Need Help please

    Hi,guys
I am new to this forum and shotguns,i am going to purchase my first shotgun this week.
I need an advice of what to buy since i want it for home defense in addition to hunting if possible ,and shooting slugs is an asset.
    Opinions are much appreciated .
    Thanx

If it's your only shotgun and you want to use it for multiple use, I reccomend a 12ga. Mossberg 500 combo, with the dual barrel set.

Mine has a 24" rifled slug barrel with rifle sights, and a 28" ribbed smoothbore with screw in choke tubes. Both barrels are ported as well.

This combination will realistically handle any shotgunner's needs.

The smoothbore for birds, waterfowl, turkey and other small game.
The 24" slug barrel for shooting slugs at large game and it is adequately short for home defense.

These are durable and pretty low priced shotguns. I picked my combo up slightly used for $175, but I would guess a new setup is probably close to $350-$400.

If you get one, make sure you get the solid stock. Mossberg made some amd may still make some with a hollow stock. The hollow stocks are crap IMO and make the whole gun unbalanced. I have owned Mossbergs for years and that is the only thing I have ever seen them do that was stupid. Soild stock models are great.

Not sure if you can get them in Egypt though.
When you've got 'em by the balls, their hearts & minds will follow. Semper Fi.

It came cross my mind, but with the idea of getting a dual barrel set i think it will cover all my needs, like you said for a nice price, although i thought about the Benelli M4 with a dual barrel set, but was very pricey i think.

Well, you learn something new every day. I didn't even know you could have shotguns for selfdefense in Egypt!

However, if it was me I would also go the Mossberg 500 route. They are not the prettiest or fanciest guns but they are reliable and not that expensive.

mosburg 500. very short, and 7 rounds. with empty chamber. got mine from gander years ago. it's the bedroom piece. Shorter barrel helps to swing around in an enclosed envirement. And i have a reminton 1200 in 20g for front of house, even shorter with pistol grip.

Why not? even though we don't need it,because it's a very safe country, you may wait for years to see a man with a ccw or so,but i have a permit,so i intend to use it.

I'd go with an 870... its a little better built than the 500. Both are reasonable choices though.

Then I think the Mossberg is the route to go 500 or 870 (depends on which of them is available in the market here),but just for me to know,is there no defense shotgun suitable for both purposes (defense/hunting) out of the box with it's same original barrel?

you could get the mossberg combo then order a 18 inch barrel from brownell's for like $75 and have a shotgun for virtually any occasion.

There might be, but I have to ask, what does one hunt in Egypt?

    I like the 870

I just bought a 870 for x-mas from wal-mart, $269.00 plus tax. Remington has $30 rebates on now for this gun so $258 will be my final cost including tax, with a 28" barrel. I just ordered an 18" barrel from cheaper than dirt for $100. It is a remington barrel, mossberg makes one for about $15 less, but for that little I will stay with remington. I wanted wood - not synthetic - so that is one reason I went this route. You can get the synthetic stock with the 18" barrel too. Now all I need is a mag extension (2 shot) and a light (fenix tactical I think).

Aside from birds, you can hunt camels, mamuth, and there were some tales of people seeing dinasours in a southern spot ...just kidding.
You can hunt wolfs, deers, elks, mountain lions, and a very rare wild black animal called Salaawa (bigger than the wolf ,but dares to sneak into large cities and attack people).

That sounds very satisfying, will go for it first thing in the morning...I hope to find this combo locally or i'll have to order internationally and suffer the long wait (retailers here cares more for fancy brands).
Thanks a lot guys, you've been very helpful.
    Best regards,
