Price check on surplus shotguns

Merry Christmas everyone,

I want to pick up a 12 gauge shotgun, and was wondering what the going price for a used or police trade in runs for. I'm interested in finding a surplus remington 870. I just want to get a ballpark figure before I start shopping around. I checked the gunbroker sight, but don;t know if an auction is a good indicator for price or not. The prices seem a bit inconstitant. Thanks for your time!

Seeing as you can pick up a brand new Mossberg 500 for around $200 if you look around, I'd think you could get a used Remington for around the same or less. I've never seen my local PD selling off surplus. I'd think a surplus pump action 12 should go for $150 or less... I wouldn't pay anything more than that for one.
Having handled both quite a bit, I'm a Mossberg fan, but both are very solid pump shotguns.

They just came out with a PD shotgun for $169. Might get one myself.

I recently got a used Mossberg 500 for $110 at a local shop in maryland finding a 870 or 500 for under $200 should be no problem . Good Luck!
