I do have an old Chinese SKS that I bought for use as a "truck gun"
provided I moved somewhere I could actually use one and that I would someday get a truck.

I like an M1 Carbine. It's surprisingly nimble inside the passenger compartment of our car and our pickup. I've also carried a Winchester 94 carbine on occasion. Tried the SKS but for the size/weight I'd as soon tote the M1.

A long arm is more comforting than is any handgun.

    It's not what you think

I have thrown an AR7, disassembled, into the trunk for a road trip. If I were to expect any trouble, an AR or Ak would be fine and probably my first choice, but for a "no special threat" road trip or vacation, the AR7 and some 100 round CCI packs would go a long way. Along the same lines, I have a super accurate MK II Ruger in a pistol case with some spare ammo and mags that has served the same long range purpose. At our 212 yard range I can ring an 8" steel plate all day long with it, and ammo is light and cheap.

Well I'm planning on bringing my M-16 to Iraq, but I have the feeling that's not quite what you meant....

On the rare trips we take, the HD shotgun goes with us.

I carry a Hi Point 4095 carbine (its in 40S&W). I carry a 40S&W MP compact so only one type of ammo to stock. Cheap, easy to shoot out to 50 yards, reliable and good sights.

When I get my AK then I might switch it out.

Ah and my family thinks I’m over armed!!! You are my kind of people.

Usually I just have my G19 w 3 G19 mags and 4 G17 mags, plus my AR with about 100 round most of the time.
