No, you can probably find something in your tool box to accomplish the same thing IF you ever do take it apart that far. I bet that 99% of 870 owners have never even removed the forend.
No reason to unless you are swapping out furniture.
Thanks, someone had told me if the gun gets wet the forearm could trap moisture and cause rust.

If you check Brownell's, they offer a combo forearm wrench. Covers 870, 500/590, 37, 1300 etc. Well worth the money. Here is the link.
