    Coach Gun's!

Who else makes a Coach Gun like Stoger has to compare with in the 20" varity?

Firearms - Coach Guns - Stoeger Industries

retsupt99 had this to say in another thread:

I have the Stoeger Coach Gun (in Nickle)...
I had already known that they were not an expensive gun, but I found a place on the I-Net called "Coyote Cap"...he does makeovers on coachguns.
I bought the Stoeger and spent another $175 on a makeover...now it's a sweet home SD gun.
I like this gun and kinda want one but I am not looking to buy a new one and send it off for another $175.00 on a makeover.

I see nothing on Rossi's website that is comparable to the Stoger with 20" bbl's.

Not up on my shotguns. Until a few months ago I have never had to buy one, I always had plenty that where available at any time and were handed down to me from my Gradfather so I'm behind on what's available.

A company connected to Remington named Spartan makes side by side shotguns like Stoegers, but i don't much about them.

Popular Mechanics magazine had an article (click), awhile back, covering a few of the makers.

The few I know of include: Taylor's, EMF, Huglu (CZ's Durango, discontinued in 2007), Stoeger, Norinco (Century Arms), Astra, Baikal (EAA; Remington), Khan (Century Arms).

CZ was distributing the Huglus up to 2007. Remington distributes the single- and double-trigger Baikal SxS's, but none with the external hammers (so far as I know).

You might check with the SASS and CASS groups, as they're at the center of all things related to cowboy action shooting. Just rooting around in the gallery photos of their web sites, you can find a number of others not on the above list.

Or, you can just contact this guy: Don Jones, aka Cody Conagher, at The Cowboy Shop. He tunes all sorts of guns used in cowboy action shooting. Fairly knowledgeable.

Hey, thanks for the info, boy's!

ccw9mm, great info. I like the CZ, was on the site and must have missed it.

I'll also check out 'Coyote Cap'. I just think a Coach Gun would be a neat addition for an HD and easy to handle quickly at least to get me to the fully loaded but much heavier 870.

I've got the Rossi "Coach Gun" which is has 3 inch mag chambers, 20 inch barrels, two triggers, two hammers and a solid rib. One barrel is modifired and the other is improved. Ive whacked lots of squirrels and things that fly with it.

It may not be in production anymore, I've had it for over 25 years.

If you liked the Durango, you can find them now and then for sale. In the past 6mos or so, I've seen a handful of them come and go on Gunbroker and GunsAmerica.

Though, I wouldn't kick a Taylor's 1878 Coach Gun 12ga out of the safe. Paired with a Taylor's 1873 Trapper PG in .357, that would do just fine. (Can't afford the originals, myself.)

That Norinco look's promising as well HG's.

I have just started looking at them in depth although I saw the Stogers at teh NRA convention when it was in town last year and really liked them. Now I am on a misson to learn more about them and make more of an educated purchase instead of just buying the Stoger right off without researching other options/ideas.

I've looked at the Stoegers and the wood can run from great to downright plain. The few Norincos I've looked at all looked good. One of them was checkered and it looked like it was checkered by a drunk 16 year old.

You really need to pick it up and eyeball whatever you decide to get.
