Put 20 downrange today (the weather was amazing). DPMS recommends cleaning the barrel after every shot for the first 25, so that's slowing things down. That and the thing is so freaking tight that it's really hard to break it down at this point.

Extensive range report forthcoming in another week or two once my scope comes in and I can really see what she can do.

Expensive, but man does this rifle shoot. I had to save my pennies for a while, but I'm glad I did.

Those flip up sights are Mangonel they are awesome. I have fixed sights and they are co witnessed with a red dot scope. The weapon is flawless. I own the DPMS .308 APR4. Shoots like a dream and surprisingly accurate. I like the forearm. I want to install a free float quad rail on mine......

No doubt it will be well worth the break-in effort and price. They have a 50 cal on sale, at 2k. I like the LR-308's. Like you, I want both a tactical and long range weapon in one but in reverse with mid range & up close primary use and the ability to reach out to touch long range targets. 308 seems to be the best all purpose round. Does DPMS say what the maximum effective range is for your LRT-SASS?

No, the manual is pretty generic. I figured 600 yards was probably about the limit for an 18" barrel semi-auto, but I'm not expert. Once I get a load tailored for it that shoots very well, I'll try to head down to Knob Creek and try it out. Can shoot at least 500 yards down there. Or maybe I can set up an across the ridge shot at my Uncle's farm. Once I do find out, I'll let you know.

Looking forward to reading your range report. My guess is that your LRT-SASS is capable of more than 600 yards. There is a decent review of the DPMS Panther LR-308B at Sniper Central, he says it would make a decent designated marksman rifle capable of making effective hits out to 600 yards on man sized targets. The LR-308B is not half the long range weapon that your LRT-SASS is. BTW what do you think of the trigger. Do you think its worth the price of the upgrade on the lower end 308s?

I'm not sure how the trigger is on other 308's. If it's like the normal M16, then it is definitely worth the upgrade. It's a pretty sweet trigger! I haven't adjusted it though. I might make it slightly lighter in the future.

Thanks for the link, I'll check the article out.

    Sammy, any updates?

Also, is those the standard grips, or the Panther Tactical Grips (or are these one and the same). Looking at the specs, it appears that the PTG is standard, but when you go to the "Build My Rifle" page, it says that they cost $48.95 extra....
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

My scope is still backordered. Last two weekends have been rainy though. If this Sunday looks nice and dry, I think I'll throw a hunting scope on it and go see what kind of groups she can shoot.

I'm not sure about the grip thing. I got it off of gunbroker and not directly through their website. My price didn't reflect an extra 50 bucks though.

Just a head's up from anyone who was waiting for it. My scope shipped today, so weather permitting, there will be an extensive range report this weekend with lots and lots of gun porn!
