I've been thinking of getting one of these. What led you to purchase this one - the matching serial #'s?

I love my Polish M44 Carbine. I too went through about a dozen to find one that matched up. What a hoot it is to shoot. Noobs seem to gravitate to my lane at the range, after feeling my Nagant fire.

The are fun to shoot I own a few of them.

The square metal butt "pad" on the stock feels nice and comfortable aganist your shoulder after about 20 rounds.

If the bolt becomes harder to work after firing a few rounds don't worry thats normal and you can polish were it rubs to make it a little smoother.

did a lot of research on the Internet on the nagant sites, they said everything works better when the numbers match, plus the gun most likely hasn't been used. Used ones have different numbers when parts are replaced to be reconditioned.from what I have read.....

ah yes. i like my m44 a lot.
i would suggest getting a recoil pad for it. that steel butt plate hurts.
good buy, you wont regret it

I just bought one a few weeks ago. This guy bought a monte carlo stock for it cleaned it up real good. Put some type of parkarized coating on it and put sling and a 6-24X42 scope on it. I shot it and was hitting a target at 300yds only 3-4 from bull and all in a 3-4 inch group. I think that is a great shooting gun. I can't wait to go again and tighten that group up some more. This gun looks like a new gun almost after it was finished. He also is giving me the old stock and 150 rounds of ammo. By the way the have some good prices on the ammo out there. Remember all of the military surplus is corrosive even though some advertise as not. therefore they recommend cleaning the gun almost immediately after shooting.. Many take different types of cleaners. some say windex is good to take to range and shoot down barrel and then use patches to dry off before you go home to clean. Supposedly the ammonia neutralizes the corrosive primer residue. So you may want to read up on that yourself and make your own decision. alot of different oppinions on how to clean them after shooting the corrosive ammo. Some of the sites out there also have the steal core stuff real cheap if anyone is interested and can't find it email me and I will find the site that had it.

I just picked up a 91/30 for $59 about a week ago, and I also have an M44. I love these old beasts.

Make sure and go over it real good, especially make sure the screws are tight. They loosened up on my M44 during its first run.

I cant use Surplus ammo at my local range, so I use Winchester soft point rounds.

Have fun with it, its a shoulder beater.

The main problem with the Nagants...

    is that they keep multipliying.

Bet ya cant have just one !

    And boatloads of fun, too.

got mine a couple of weeks ago, took it to a local smith to check it out, they said it was in excellent shooting shape, barrel looked like it hadn't been fired (sure it has), was worth the money
now I get to order ammo, gonna get some surplus "cheap" stuff as well as some nice steel core stuff, I too might look at getting a 91 now

I haven't tried it with my 91/30 yet, but boxotruth.com shows a really cheap and effective method of accurizing them with a few pieces of cork under the barrel at the front end of the fore-stock.
