Both of my Romy's run fine. The beauty of the rifle is that it's stupid simple. If you do your part it can do well out past 200yds (ballistics on the 7.62x39 average a little over 1300fps and 500 ft-lb at 400 yards)

i got a norinco 84s. it is a well made gun. but the best thing it is in .223 cal. so ammo is easy to get, got to love mil sur ammo. so if you want a good ak i would look for a 84s.

I have a Romanian WASR that I bought at a gun show for less than $300. I have put another $200 into it by replacing the furniture with an aluminum quad rail, six position stock, new pistol grip, forearm grip, and Picatinny optics mount with a Red Dot. It shoots likes a champ!

I have a wasr myself, came with collapsable stock, I changed out the Galil style foregrip with one that had quad rails.
I plan on replacing the front sight with something more visible and putting a red dot of some sort on it, and get things dialed in better.
no problems with mine so far, I've put about 1000 rounds through it, wolf polymer coated, wolf laquer coated, and some federal brass, no issues, but I need to get the trigger replaced, has some slap to it, not horrible enough to make it impossible to shoot, just enough to be annoying
