Just jumped off my Truck Gun thread......and NOW I'm more convinced I need a nice basic AR(want a Colt)that I can add stuff to over time. The wife's onboard presently..have to keep that vibe going. That WalMart Colt, the LE6920(in the other thread) is a good base rifle to begin with!

I got the Bushmaster Optics Ready for $750 and built from there. I'm very happy with it!

I wanted a stubby VFG without spending $3034873524. I hate to say it, Tapco's offering seems to be pretty decent. Yeah, it's not a name brand popular with the elite group of operators But the thing works. I have the Magpul RFG, but I just didn't like it, or the way it looked. I tried to cut the RFG down to a handstop, but screwed up REAL bad, haha. But the Tapco stubby VFG is good to go in my book :)
I am considering putting one on mine down the road.
Streamlight Polytac. It's 120 Lumen and only $40. I think it's a great bang for buck light. I have on on my AK, one on my nightstand and carry a Streamlight ProTac 2L 180 Lumen in my pocket.
RKM, here is my attempt at chopping down my Magpul RVG.
Sent from up range, at about 3100 fps
Yeah, I screwed up real bad.
I've been going back and forth, back and forth between a stubby VFG and a Magpul AFG. Ran an KAC handstop for about 10 seconds. The mount screw is very uncomfortable. I like the shape and size of the KAC, but if it just mounted differently, it would be great. Handstops are just so incredibly expensive for what they are.
I tried cutting down an AFG. It worked great but I didn't like how the back was then hollow from being cut. So I cut it down further so it was just the front 1/4 part, where your pointer finger would rest against. I turned it back wards and then locked it onto the rail with ladder guards on each side. It resembles the Gear Sector handstop. But... back to VFG's I am. I like the way rifles look with handstops, or nothing at all. Very minimalistic. But I just keep coming back to VFG's.

I agree with you about the price of hand stops, everybody wants stupid amounts for a tiny piece of plastic. I cut this thing with a dremel and it works pretty good, for home-made.
