    TacStar shotholder frustration!

Am I the only one with this problem??
I purchased a TacStar 4 shot Shotholder for my 20 gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun (and, yes, the TacStar was made specifically for this model and gauge).
This is what I email TacStar this weekend:

TacStar, I purchased the Side Saddle Shotholder 4 shot for my 20 gauge Mossberg 500. Problems are as follows: 1. The 8/32 screw used to replace the internal screw has such a shallow canal for my flathead driver that I am very close to stripping the canal. Poorly engineered, IMHO. 2. Most frustrating of all (and maybe I am truly missing something) I cannot fully jack the shotgun because the shotholder stops the slide from fully withdrawing and ejecting the spent shell. What in the world am I doing wrong? Can I not use the standard wooden forend with the TacStar? 3. In addition, I cannot tighten the 8/32 screw because the ejector is in the way (when attempting to mount the TacStar. Does anyone else have these problem or am I totally missing something? tx, tom perkins

I love the TacStar sidesaddle - are you sure you don't have it rotated 180 degrees? The side with the shorter tab should be to the front of the gun.

Some of the older TacStars are made only for the short forends, but the Lyman site says the 20-ga hunter models are made for long forends.

Was there any resolution to this? Been looking at this product and wondered what the final word was.

I like Wilson's product becaues they use Allen head bolts, vs flatheads.
I believe I'll be converting to this 3 Guns product in the immediate future.: Shotgun Page

AFIK, you cannot use the "sporting" fore end with any receiver mount shell carrier. You'll need to trim the excess off the fore end, or get a butt stock setup.

Sorry guys, for the late reply. FINALLY got some answers and I'm not as crazy as I thought. The twenty gauge I have is a "Junior" model and has an extended slide. The slide does, in fact, run against the shotholder making it impossible to jack. You won't find that info in any instructions or purchase warnings. Again, sorry for the late reply. Everything else I read on the TacStar has been great.
ps. anyone want to buy a twenty gauge junior shotgun?? LOL!
