The M-1 Carbine as a Home Defense weapon.

I just got my 'new' CMP service grade carbine. I actually have 3 others. I was reminded how on 9/11 it was a carbine I picked up and put in my truck as I joined two fellow Vets in assisting theo local Sheriff's dept in checking out bridges along I-10. I had 4 30 round mags loaded with soft point ammo which makes this little rifle very deadly.
I think this is a combo tha those in states that look down on EBR's could carry as a very effective option.

Great for bridges...a little tougher for small rooms and getting around corners...OMO

    Nice weapon though...

Yes, the M1 Carbine for me. I think it's a top choice for household defense. It's easier to use in hallways and stairwells than most any other choice. To me it handles better than an AR 15 or short-barreled shotgun. Loaded with soft point ammunition, it'd be hard hitting at short range. The M1 Carbine is my "go to" long arm for home defense purposes along with a Winchester Model 1907 .351. I'll only use a handgun if I can't get to a rifle first.

Great weapon. I wish I had one.

The little carbine is our only long gun that spends the night out of the safe.

It is reliable and my wife actually likes to shoot it!!!!!

CMP is going to release another batch on July 7th.
I zeroed this little baby yesterday at the thousand inch range at Ft. Huachuca. I put 10 rounds of Remington Soft Point in less than an inch. That's better than I did with a carbine on the same range in 63 when I got back from Berlin.

Not a thing wrong with the M1 carbine for an HD weapon. I wouldn't hesitate to grab mine in a pinch. As you've experienced, they're accurate, reliable and very handy. And really, in my opinion, quite an elegant-looking weapon. This also gives me the excuse to post a picture of mine, made by Rock-Ola:

Nice carbine and M1 cphilip! This is the kind of stuff I like to look at on forums. As I understand it the Quality HMC is one of the less common M1 Carbines. What about the stock on the Garand? It almost looks like some sort of high-grade walnut.

    Here's my same ol' M1 Carbine, a 10-43 Underwood.

It is one of the lower number ones but not the lowest numbers by far. I think it ranks above about two or three others in numbers.

That stock is walnut just sort of burly and dingy and stained from years of wear. The Gun was likely a Danish return as far as I can tell but its only clue is the Danish anchor on the rear sight cover. It also had a Danish type of "European Birch" main stock when I got it but still had its original Walnut upper and front hand guards. I simply bought about three different old original stocks before I found one that perfectly matched the rest. It appears an Arsenal restock type that just happens to have some burl in it. It took me a while to find that match. The gun remarkably has almost all matching print number parts, or at least close era to right except that Sight cover and in addition it has had a very nice Marlin Barrel put on at some point in time that gauges out at about a 1 ME and 1 OE or less. It dates to 1943.

The Carbine dates to 1944. It is a mix master of parts. IBM, Rockola and some others...

This picture is a bit better idea of the Garand stock and how it matches the original Hand Guards. You can see its not a "custom stock" just very period worn. However matches well the same wear on the Hand Guards.

    And another just for fun!
