Hmm, I only generally use cheap military issue type mags. D&H says that they are supposed to be mil-spec, but I'd be wary of a mil spec mag that can't feed the mil spec round. What kind of malfunctions are they giving you?

Its hard to say - I can't picture whats happening based on your description. D&H mags should be good - I doubt they are the problem, especially if they are feeding some ammo fine and not other ammo...could easily be a buffer spring or buffer issue.

What gun are you shooting this out of?

feeding the mag of stripper clips or single rounds? Have you tried hitting the back of the mag to seat the rounds all the way to the rear of the mag?

Im loading by hand single round and yes hit back of mag im old infantry loaded lots o 16 mags in my day..lol contacted 44mag.com where i bought them they said it should take 5.56 no problem, and they said to send back. jam is happening on all 3 mag "D&H" during single round hand load first 2 or 3 rounds go in fine but about the 5th round its like i have to force round in and buffer gets cocked on spring ,ill straigten that out and its like bullet tip is scraping on front of mag.

The Magpul mags are very slick - it sounds like they are working well for you, which may be fine for you. It may also be that your buffer isn't heavy enough and the gun is cycling faster than the D&H mags can keep up with - thats what it sounds like based on your description. I would say the springs may be worn out, but since the mags are new this is unlikely - which is what makes me think the buffer is likely the culprit. The hotter 5.56 ammo should make the gun cycle much faster than .223, which would make it more noticeable. An "H" buffer may fix your problem.

Ill try changing the buffer but have never fired the DH mags with 5.56 its a mag loading problem. they load .223 rem and fire it fine.

Right - the fact that they load and fire .223 fine is what makes me think it is the higher pressure/faster cycling caused by the 5.56 that is bringing this problem to light. Think about it - with the .223 ammo the mags work fine, right? With the 5.56 ammo the bolt is cycling so fast the rounds don't have time to nose up before the bolt is already back forward and trying to push them into the chamber. The magazine spring (which is new) doesn't have time to push the rounds up. To me, this means the gun is cycling too fast, which can be solved with a heavier buffer to slow the bolt carrier group a bit.

But then again, maybe I just don't understand what you're describing. I thought the D&H mags were causing this problem using 5.56 ammo but not with .223 based on your first post, but from what you just now posted it sounds like you have never fired 5.56 ammo out of your D&H mags, and they work fine with .223.....in which case, I don't see where the problem is at all....

I just figured it out. Wow. I must be really thickheaded.

The problem has nothing to do with the gun at all....you just can't get 5.56 ammo to fit in your magazine.

I suspect the ammo is the problem. What is on the case rim and where did you get the ammo?

    Austin

    edited to add:

The reason I suspect the ammo is the problem is because 5.56 and .223 Rem has the exact same exterior dimensions. Its much more likely that you got some bad ammo than that your magazine can tell the difference between what should be two dimensionally identical cartridges.
