Yeah, those are pricey, and also pretty much the top choices, I have seen every one of those on a infantryman's service weapon.

I'm sure there are some less expensive ones out there too that will work.

I can't afford optics for my bushmaster yet, thankfully my FN came with an ACOG though.

OK, What's a BUIS? I'm sure i need one or two and I'll start saving for it regardless of the answer, but what is it?

    A back up iron sight.

Some sort of sight to replace the ones on the carrying handle that you removed o place an optic on it.

BUIS already answered. I have have a Rock River dominator mount with a non-flip BUIS. I am not too happy with it. I will be purchasing a flip-up BUIS soon. And when I do, I will be putting it up for sale.

I did the whole IBZ sighting on the rifle with the RR dominator mount and a EOTech for optic. For me, the BUIS just gets in the way and i do not see any situation where I would be served by the features of IBZ. Plus, at mid-life, my eyes ain't what they used to be. I just ain't as good a shot with the M4 as I was in the mid-eighties when I worked for Uncle Sam.

Long shots, I have the ole .30-06 with a powered scope.

In any case, they are a blast to shoot. And you will spend money accessorizing them. Not only optics, but a sling is a must and a light is a must.

And a bayonet for those really stubborn coyotes...

Anyhoo, BUIS: Got it. Do they make a BU front sight that flips out of the way of the optics? I was thinking of removing my irons to maximize light getting in the optical sight.

Got out today for the first time with my new Stag 1L. Had to raise my front sight 5 clicks to hit on the money at 100 yards. My brother was trying to zero his Colt H-bar with an Aimpoint. We had a good pair of binoculars, but there was still a lot of, "where did that hit?, slow down, I'm trying to see." Groups resembled patterns from a turkey choke. Wish I could borrow my 17 year olds body, and jam my brain in it. But, a Tuesday poking tiny holes in scrap sheetrock still beats going to work.

If you were on standard irons thats because the sights don't have a set up for 100 and the flight trajectory of the round.

Shoot-N-C targets and a spotting scope are nice-to-haves.

I just recently purchased two AR's, a DPMS Sweet 16 and a older Bushmaster, for a awesome scope look at the Bushnell copy of the ACOG, I have it on my 16 and this thing is dead nuts on at 11-150 yards!!! Some of us can't afford a grand + for optics. As for mags check out Pmags by magpul, the only mags I want for mine. I also ordered everything from Dillon for reloading and now have 5,000 more reasons to go out back in the woods for some quality time with my son!!

What serendipity, my Stag 2T came in. Now I have to get a: sling, a LaRue mount for my aimpoint, and a mount for my TLR-1 (Yankee hill). Then off to the range to sight it in.
