Friend of mine simply uses an ACOG, no Docter on top. I think he said it's the US Army setup, but not sure. Has the Killflash on with flip up covers. For long use the ACOG as normal. For short range, flip the front cover down and keep both eyes open. Even though one eye is looking into the dark scope with the red dot/chevron, the other eye is seeing for CQB. Once you get used to it, you will be "seeing" the red dot hovering in your CQB view.
You could still even have the Docter or EO to be more complete.
You won't find any of the normal instruction that employs this kind of method with an ACOG. I'd like to have a chat with your friend.
This thread has gone on for a month and I think every reasonable solution has been given, not once but repeated twice, three or four times and every mounting solution has been given for micro dots, Doctors, J Points, Eo's etc.
I would say that unless you've used any of the methods for intermediate range shooting and CQB shooting in actuall hostile envirements and have a fresh perpestive on what works and what does not work, this thread has seen it's usefulness.
