I know it isn't tactical - Savage Model 24V
I have a Savage Model 24V, .30-30 over 20 gauge, and have had the PLASTIC (ugh!) trigger guard break on me a couple of times now. I decided to look for a better replacement. I ordered one over the internet, but it was for a different model and not what I needed. Another company said they used to make some, but didn't know when they'd do another run.
I finally took matters into my own hands. I spoke with a machinist I know about getting some brass stock. He did me one better and got the stock and did the rough cutting on a bandsaw in his shop. I took the blank home and with a few hand files, some sandpaper and emory cloth, a Dremel tool and some time and a lot of nervousness, I turned out a new guard for my combo gun.
Using the brass was inspired by a photo I found on the internet of another gun of the same model with a homemade brass replacement You can see in the photos how I tried to stay close the original design. I need to do a bit more polishing, there are still a few scratches left from the filing. But it's a good start.
