Yes....the topic of HD shotguns again!

Went out in public today (narrowed it down to 14 days a month now), for some necessities, and a quick drop in at my local dealer (the one I got the best buy for my G19), checking on shotguns. There is a gun show coming within range this weekend so I started shaking the bushes. I still haven't come to terms on the Mossberg/Remington issue, but I've had a Mossberg 500, and kind of want a Remington 870. The tang safety alone might have me sold on the Mossy, but my dealer gave me a quote today on the 870HD 7+1 for $299+tax. I know it's the express model, but hey......would I be doing better with a Mossy 500 at that price?

I think so. The 870HD is about par with the 590 but its lighter and smoother, so my vote goes to the 870. I bought one of the HD models a few years ago just because of the price and I beat it to death... it proved itself a decent gun for te money. I'd buy another if I needed to.

I have the Mossy with an ATI Shotforce adjustable stock and pistol grip. With the stock collapsed it is very easy to swing into action and the pistol grip helps with recoil control. I keep it loaded with OO reduced recoil shells and feel it is more than enough gun to have should I need it.

    870. Express guns can be run very hard, with less grinding than the 500/590s.

Any thoughts on the Winchester 1200 or 1300 defender. I haven't had an opportunity to check one out but they seem like a good alternative.

Just picked up my mossberg 500 from the dealer today. Assembled it and spent a couple hours moving through the house with it. I have to say it's gonna do everything I want it to. Can't wait to get on the range with it, it's gonna be a blast :-D
Bought one for me, one for my Mum and 400 shells to split between us. Christmas came early for her this year!

I had a 1300...it was a good gun, but sold it because the 870 and Mossebergs are much more common, meaning parts are easier to get.

You know what might tip this off? A nice Remington Fall 2008 rebate of say $25 or $50! Now that would be a deal!

I have a Remington Express. I added a folding stock, and a 7 + 1 tube extenison. Really happy with mine. I also went with the 20" barrel rather than the 18".

Here's the best for those tight corners in your house. A 6" Tromix Saiga-12! Detachable stock too. You could almost mexican carry that! (if you found a place for that mag!)
