Opinions on Mini 30 or AK-47

I'm looking to get a rifle in 7.62x39 while I still can. I see alot of talk about AK's here on the forum not so much on the Ruger mini 30. Any opinions on one or the other?

The Ruger used to be touted as a 'ranch gun'. I think they have made some changes, but long overdue. For the availability of magazines, and the rifles, I'd still go for the AK despite any differences in accuracy to a hundred yards. Truth be told, the Mini 30 and the AK can't be compared to my thinking. The only thing they have in common is the caliber. Two different purposes and employment.

I have a mini 30 but the largest capacity mag i have found is a 10 round,it's fairly accurate but if you want 30 round mags that are cheaper go with the AK.,I have taken deer with my mini 30

I have an older Mini 14......I don't have much good to say about it. The only reason I still own it, is that it is a rare stainless one with original factory folding stock. It worth more than I paid for it, but it can't hit the broad side of a barn.......

I had a mini-30 but got rid of it.

I can't say anything bad about it, I just didn't need it since I have Aks and SKSs.

    AK, no question.

it's hard to find quality mags for the Mini 30 or Mini 14 (at least ones that hold more than 5 or 10 rounds) and there just aren't as many other parts and accessories available for them.

The Mini-14 Ranch looks better in the woods and has better scope mounts
If I was going to Mars and could only take one rifle, it would be the AK

Get an AK. Don't get a WASR unless you just flat out can't get a different one. GP1975 is a good one. Yugo M70s are about the best if you want to spend the money on them.
The preceding post may contain sarcasm; it's just better that way. However, it is still intended with construction and with the Love of my L-rd Y'shua.

If you have the choice and the money get them both, if not get an AK. If you can find a Chinese Norinko MAK 91 get it (milled reciever, Match Barrel).

I've owned both in past years, have since sold both. I'd have to say pass on the Mini-30. The lack of factory high capacity mags are the killer.

For a utility gun, an AK-47 is hard to beat. My favorite was an Egyptian MAADI and I've owned about every variant to come into this country.

For the guy who said that Mini-14 mags were hard to find, well, he needs to look harder. I have a Mini-14 and I stick with factory 20 round magazines only. Factory 30's are out there but are rare, and expensive. Factory 20's are still in production and easily available. They are expensive compared to AR-15 mags but hey, what can I tell you? A search on any search engine should get you good results.

If I were charged with a crime after a HD shooting it'd be a lot nicer to have the DA heft a Ruger Mini 30 up in front of the jury than the AK. When it comes to SD shootings you need to think backwards from the witness stand.

I'd love to recommend an American gun, but I've had a Ruger Mini-14 and a Mini-30. Their M-14 style actions are great, but the accuracy stinks. They are heavy, and good mags are hard to find. I think the AK is a barbaric, cheaply stamped gun, but has proven itself for years. I don't like the round anyway, except for the price of imported bulk ammo.
