Anyone else using the 5.45X39 for defensive purposes ?

I was wondering if any one has made this choice for their defensive purposes? I am loving it cheap ammo, rugged, good amounts of surplus military ammo with the nifty air pocket and steel core and from my limited experience with the ar-15 I just cant trust them.

I trade off which gun I set by my bedside. The 5.45, mine is SLR105A1, is an amazing gun and 100%, accurate, and fast as hell. Its very fast to shoulder and transitions from left to right well and is lightweight. I keep 540 rds in loaded strippers in a small ammo can for fast moving ammo storage. I love it. papa

There is one on the wall here right next to me by my recliner. I'll use it if I have too...

Smith & Wesson see the 5.45X39 as a useful round. They released an M&P15 chambered for it. Product: Model M&P15R Rifle
