    New AK Owner

Picked it up today. It's a Bulgarian SSR 85C2. Believe me I wish I could've afforded one with a milled reciever. It's about the best I could've done for the money I could afford. I haven't shot it yet. My buddy is gonna spot me some rounds until my ammo shipment comes in on Monday,so I'll take it tomorrow. I'm pumped!

BTW...I think I'll name it Barack...After all he is the reason I went ahead and bought one .

I'll refrain from further comments until all of the AK gurus have posted and given their blessings.

Very nice.... welcome to the world of the AK. They are great weapons and you can actually buy ammo that is affordable for them. Re your comment on wishing you could have bought a milled receiver. Stamped receivers are lighter and the AK was originally designed to be a stamped receiver. So don't worry about it. Get it dirty and be safe.

That's good to learn, JrHawk, with regard to the milled vs. stamped receiver debate. I've also been confused about that aspect while considering what type of AK to purchase in the future. Thank you for sharing it!!!

And ofdesp, congrat's on the new weapon!

Congrats on the new AK. Looks sharp. Shoot the heck out of it and let us know what you think! (I personally love the feel and sound of my Yugo underfolder)

Alright, I ran two mags(60 rds. total) through it this afternoon. First 20rds. @ 50 yds. were 3 inches high but pretty much in the center. Then 10rds. @ 100yds. aiming at a Beer box (case). 7 out of 10 hit the box, high and a tad to the right. I felt pretty good about the aim. For me with iron sights, first time shooting it, I was pleased. 2nd mag was firing as fast as I could to see if everything was going to stay together. Performed flawlessly. What a rush! Sights seem straight. However, the gas port/block (angled piece that connects to the barrel) is twisted a bit to the left, not much. It doesn't affect the performance of the gun as far as I can tell. All in all I'm thrilled. Now i just have to wait for 1,000 round ammo shipment to get in. I borrowed today rounds from a fellow firefighter / AK owner.

    JrHawk, thanks for the info.

Great looking addition to your gun safe. And I am afraid you are right regarding your reason to purchase it. I don't have one (more of a DPMS guy) but I do plan to get one someday, your looks like a great purchase.

    Welcome to the AK club

I'm a proud member myself. I have a WASR-10, believe me, they are a blast to shoot. Enjoy
