Ive gone to the dark side
And decided to drop all my AK plans in favor of a Smith and Wesson M&P15A. I plan to get the rifle, plenty of 30rd magazines, a good flash hider, and all the other evil accessories I can before January. Anybody have any experience with the Smith and Wesson series of AR15s?
Did a cheap photoshop of what the rifle will look like after im done

What made you choose the AR platform over the AK?

Your cheap photo shop looks pretty good! Go for it.

That'll be pretty sweet! One question.....why January? I figure everything will start in motion right after the election.....that means November. Whatever will come of things, if the evil 'O' is elected.....things won't delay until he takes office. Nov 4th is but a couple weeks away, and the results shortly after. If you can secure your purchase and lock in your quoted price with a down payment or a credit card before the price goes up, I'd do it. Manufacturers and suppliers are already seeing big money in their eyes.....either way the election goes. Just my 2¢, and I know it aint worth much.

Just picked up my AR the other day......finally. CMMG flat top M4,look just like your beginning photo. Bought 8 mags and a case load of ammo. I figured I'd beat the rush and any price increases, IF the unthinkable happens and the gun grabber takes the election.DO it NOW, don't wait.

Good choice with the M&P15, definitely get it while you still can. I really believe it will be another year or so before another AWB gets signed into law, so there's still time. I just took my M&P15 out to the range last week, and after shooting it, I wish I had bought one sooner. I've already added a quad rail system in preparation for a vertical foregrip and light. You won't regret going with that one!

The lack of quality builds without waiting a long time for something along the lines of a Jim Fuller build. Originally I was going to get a Vector Arms AKUP, then Vector got shut down and they became very scarce. Then I was going to get an Arsenal SLR-107F, and then found Arsenal was having alot of QC issues at their factory with their SLR-107 and 106 rifles shooting to the left along with canted sights and poor finishes. If I had the money and the patience, I would have gone with a Rifle Dynamics Jim Fuller Build AK, but I dont want to shell out 1200+ for an AK and then wait 9 months. The AR seemed good quality straight from the factory.

I said January because thats when the official inauguration is and thats when things could be set into motion legally. And while I doubt the assault weapons ban would be the the very first thing on Obamas mind when (if) hes inaugurated, one can never be too careful

I hear you. I went ahead and ordered an AK receiver from Elk River Tool & Die Inc. and plan to build my own. I bought a barrel a while back and have some other parts laying about so you may see a thread in the future about me messing perfectly good AK parts
