    Range Time AR15

Went to the range last night to shoot the new S&W M&P15X
Also got to shoot the new S&W M&P.40SC I picked up a week ago for the first time,
Got to say that both myself and wife are glad we got the .40 instead of the 9mm. Great little gun.

    On to the AR.
Straight out of the box this thing shoots awesome. That aroma 5.56 produces sent a reminder of practice & qualification 25 years ago.
Using open sights (Troy folding rear and fixed A2 front) sighted in at 25 yards:

Little bit low and left but all 20 rnds grouped.

100 yards I had a hard time seeing the center of the 8.5x11 target but looks like it collected ok. A bit high and right

Overall operated perfectly, used (3) 30 rnd PMags, a 20 round colt, and the 30 round mag that came with the AR. Shot a total of 100 rounds.
Below shot with cell phone, not the best:

I can see this is going to be an expensive hobby, I think it's a good time to stock up on 5.56 while it's at $175 / case

I doubt I'll add an EOTech, seems like an awesome sight but if this ever has to get "used" it won't be for sniper fire.
I got a lead on some USGI Colt 20's from a local Army surplus. He thinks he can get me 10 for $100. I hope so, I prefer the smaller mag for the range.

Looks like you had some fun, and good shooting!

    I love my M&P15!

An eotech is for close to moderate range fast target acquisition with both eyes open type of sight,

LOL, I had always assumed they were a distance sight. I'll have to stop by the shop and get a demonstration. These old eyes can't read a menu anymore or see far away detail without a pair of specs.
    Damn they are pricey though.

Very nice! How's that trigger? My recommendation if you're shooting it a lot. Get a rubber grip like a Hogue or something. Way better in my opinion.

Very smooth and short, nothing like the worn out weapon I had in the 80's
Stopped by the shop just to stock up and was able to secure (2) more cases at $6.49 per box, that should keep for a while.

There use to be 1000 rounds to what was considered a case when 7.62x39 was like 69.00 1000 rounds and .223 was around 139.00 for 1000 rounds, then the prices went up and they started calling 500 rounds a case to make it seem like you weren't getting spanked as bad.
As far as the Eotech you can sometimes find early bushnells that have been rebuilt for under $200.00,I think i paid like 169.00 for mine about 3 years ago
