    Bought a Sig 556

For my husband's post-election-buy-now-plus-early-Christmas present, he received a Sig 556 SWAT model (fancy quadrail and light foregrip). He picked it out himself and just loves it.

I'm really happy; when we first started dating, we hit a small bump when he said he didn't understand why I had so many guns. And then he got his carry permit. Since we've been married, the number of firearms under our roof has nearly doubled.

I let him take my EoTech, and I'll just buy another for my Bushmaster. I've also got a sling on order for him.

It really dings the crap out the brass.

The Sig takes AR mags, but I find the safety is a bit further up than on the AR and the mag release much further forward, out of reach for my small finger when I'm in a firing position. For those two reasons the AR is much more user-friendly for me, but the Sig is just fine for my husband's big paws.

    He's a lucky man,

The Sig is gas piston right?

Can you adjust the amount of gas to keep it from dinging the brass?

I could adjust my FAL and it has saved a lot of brass

Lord, Grant me a good sword and no need to use it.

I believe you can, but I'm leaving all that up to him. He finally has a gun that he feels is truly "his."

I do like the system better than the AR; the AR blasts the gas right into my face and tends to make me gag.

The 556 is a sweet shooting gun. I'm sure he's going to enjoy it for a long time.

Funny, I was just wondering if you got him to come around.

A married (gun savy) woman is very wise, when she lets her husband have one gun he can call his own...

It's a great gun, I got one a couple months ago. Got the basic model and have swapped out the quad rail fore stock with a set from a 551, then I mounted an Aimpoint M4 on the rail. Might have to get around to getting some pictures.

The gas system is adjustable, but it's normal and high, in case the gas port(s) start to get clogged. If the knob is straight up and down it's at normal, the 1 o'clock position is the high.

I saw something on another site about the dinging of the brass being a (military) design feature to keep someone from being able to recover and reuse it. Needless to say, can't vouch for the truth to that statement.

Dang it...now I need to get one.

The dinged brass doesnt really hurt anything. They'll blow out once you shoot them if you reload.
