    Another first shotgun thread!

Decided to buy my first shotgun and went with the Mossberg 500. It was actually quite hard to find one, had to call 4 stores before I found one in stock. Picked it up yesterday. Paid $260 came with two barrels. 18.5'' attached now. Would like a light attachment but not sure which one, and need to get some real shells.

Say! Congratulations on your first shotgun! I got my first in over five years or so this past month, finally got to shoot it today. The Mossberg is a real good option for the shotty. I used to have on in 20ga. Well, get some 1oz slugs, then get some 00 buckshot, then try some #2 shot, and blow away some targets! You'd be surprised at what the #2 can do! I'm already overly confident with the '00' and the slugs!

I forgot to say....it did come very oiled, is that just how they ship them to prevent rust? I took it apart and wiped it down some.

    Nice mossy.

New guns always come with a lot of oil / grease in them. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've only bought Remingtons, but I would get all the factory ooze off of it and put on my own stuff. A dab of synthetic grease on the slide rails and the rest of it oiled.

    Excellent choice!
My first was a 500 "sporting combo" as they called it. Mine came with a 28 inch accu choke and a 20 inch slug barrel with rifle sights. Treat it right and it will serve you well!

Congrats on your new purchase. Seems like at steal for 260! What particular model 500 is this? the field model? and what's the capacity on that thing? I think the shotty bug just hit me lol

If you're gonna' attach a light, make (darn) sure the bulb has some shock insulation. I went through several "clever, low budget" ideas of my own for a Shotgun light...before I decided it was cheaper in the long run to quit trying to re-invent the wheel & just go ahead with *the purchase of a top-quality, tried & true piece of equipment. Nice Mossy 500, congrats.

    Good buy,

The Mossberg 500 Combo is one of my recommendations for shotguns. Great multiuse on a proven platform

    Welcome to the 500 club.

Good choice. She'll take care of you if you do the same for her.
