Everyone Sold Out of Lower Receivers?

Scary black gun guys (AR15 owners) seem to be some of the most fanatic (and I don't mean that in a bad way). So I decided if I wanted to get my own I better do it now and started looking. I can build or fix about anything and am very cheap so I was looking for lowers and kits to make a project gun.. so far everyone is sold out! I have found some completely assembled and some that are partially assembled but the prices seem out of line.

I really wanted it to use as a hog gun primarily but also as a weapon for the future in case things go bad.

Does anyone know the status of production for the lowers or where they still have some reasonably priced and available? Will there be a glut on the market soon (perhaps after no AR ban materializes) and prices come down? Should I wait 4 years for the next Prez?

If you do that you might not EVER get a chance at once.

Unfortunately everyone had the same idea. I bought a used DPMS back in late Sept early Oct. I wanted to buy a new Bushmaster but could not afford it. So I had to go used.

Like Hotguns stated, don't wait or you may not get the chance. Our new socialist leader wants to make the AWB of 1994 permanent. This is going to drive the prices of ARs through the roof. I would look into getting one soon (complete rifle if need be) because the prices are only going to get higher.

I don't know what price is "out of line" for you, but I sent a PM with particulars on a local source.

There are Hundreds of "what, when, how much" should I buy
threads on the gunboards since Election Day.

    Let's interject some common sense.

Realistically - Congress won't be passing many Laws before
    February 2009.

By January 2009 , the U.S. Economy will have suffered even more
    Massive Job Layoffs and Unemployment.

It will be WINTER in most of the country , a time when the economy normally slows down ANYWAY.

VERY FEW people will be buying Expensive Guns and Accesories.

Those who have No MONEY- but do have Expensive Guns - will
be selling them at a LOSS

Also , the companies that are now extending production to meet demand may have some SURPLUS product by then.

Unless you are GUNLESS - I suggest waiting a few weeks to make
    major purchases.

    Let's interject some common sense.
We have a Socialist President elect that calls for change and I have no doubt that we will get it. His appointees will more than likely follow his lead and thought process. His VP is also a known rabid anti-gun fanatic and they both have the track records to prove it. The Congress has a Democratic Majority. Some of his appointed will be the same anti gun yuppies that served in the Clinton Administration.

The demand far exceeds the supply at this point, thus the increase in prices.
As the manufactures eventually fill the need, the demand, which will still be high, will dictate the price, which will be even higher than it is now due to the time margin coinciding with news of, or even talk of another so called "Assault Weapons Ban" to save the children.

I am reminded of some advice that a friend of mine took when AK's went from 300 bucks all day long to over 900 bucks because of the first ban. He was told pretty much the same thing that you stated and he never did get one until after the ban expired.

Things are about to be different. Very different.

Waiting a few weeks, may be the wrong thing to do.

Of course I could be totally wrong. If I am not, you may never get another chance to own an AK or an AR.

Didn't see any at the gunshow today. Plenty of complete rifles and TONS of uppers that apparently nobody was buying

    Lower

I was going to get one for a project, not even a panic buy. None of our suppliers have any in stock, and a lot of the parts kits and such have dried up. I guess the 9mm AR build will have to wait.

On the other hand, we have found plenty of AR magazines and polymer AK magazines. The ARs are under $20 each, I think the AKs go for just over that. Some of Galil magazines just hit the shop, too, but they were almost $50 each! Those might have been a special order for a customer, though.

The Galil mags were always comparatively expensive.
Especially Way Back When the Galil rifles were first imported.
I sure have bought enough of them over the years.

There is a very high quality insert/adapter available that will allow you to run AR mags through the Galil but, I never bought one as I have enough Galil mags.

The ORLITE Galil mags work well also and they are always alot cheaper than the factory steel mags.
I bought about 6 or 8 of the Orlite just to have them for SHTF but, I really never use them.

I was lead to beleive that the ORLITES were not meant to use over and over and that they were a cheaper alternative to using and dropping magazines in the field when it came to a run and gun.

    Any truth to that?

Went to the Dixie gun show here in Raleigh today.
They had lots of lowers, prices were $300 - 400 for stripped lowers.

I asked one of the vendors why he was charging so much ($375), and that I had just seen the same DPMS stripped lower for $150. Guy looks at me and says "I bet they were back ordered, you want it or not?" I laughed and told him to 'keep it and I hope he got stuck with the 4 he had.'

Sad thing is I must have seen 50 - 75 nut jobs that just bought their first AR-15 today (I was only there for 2 hours). And everyone of them is going to want to be at the range Tuesday afternoon.

The whole place was one big rip off.

Oh HotGuns...you're pushing me back into time and making me strain my brain here.

OK ~ I could be wrong about this but, here goes anyway & somebody/anybody correct me if I'm wrong.

The early ORLITE Galil mags did not have a steel insert molded into the locking tab & they (reportedly) did not hold up very well at all.
Then (at some point in time) they started molding a steel tab right into the plastic and I really don't see why they would not last fairly indefinitely.

I could be wrong as I'm really not "up to speed" on the plastic mags & I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Some years ago I bought 6 or 8 brand new ones just to have around - all from one seller on Gunbroker.
They were quite inexpensive and good insurance to have around for the low price.

Really I have enough steel mags that I'll probably never need them but I've used one of them (best guessing ) maybe 10 times without any function related problems.
