I have mine almost completed, but was set back by the NoBama election and concentrated on mags and ammo.

Midwest Industries 2 piece non free float forend (QuadRail)
Tango Down stubby vertical foregrip and battlegrip
Vickers Blue force padded tactical sling with Midwest rail sling mount
Aimpoint red dot sight the M2 is fine or EoTech is good....
    ARMS carry handle Aimpoint mount
Surefire flashlight mount with surefire flashlight
A bunch of PMag magazines (by MagPul)
    Surefire muzzlebrake
Mine has a Troy 4 rail drop in 7' Handguard, Tango Down Battle Grip, ARMS low profile BUIS, Daniel Defense Pak light bracket, and A Trijicon ACOG (in the mail). That's a good set up, and is NJ legal too!!!

The first thing to get is a sling. IMO, you should be buying ammo (1K if you can) and at least 12 quality mags, then you should master the iron sights at different ranges, get some training, and finally buy more ammo. Repeat ad nauseum. Once you have really mastered the iron sights you should get more advanced training. After that, you can add all the tacti-cool gear and accessories that money can buy; then more training.

    tim,

Before you do anything, take it to the range as is and put at least 200 rounds downrange. Have some fun with it. You might want to keep it like it is!!!

You have the M4 A1 upper same as mine. Non removable carry handle and rear sight adjustable for windage only. Elevation is adjusted using front sight. There are several things you or a qualified gunsmigh might want to do, listed in other forums, dedicated to the AR, M4Carbine.net & AR15.COM., specifically restaking the gas key cap screws and the staking the castle nut. I have done them both and am really enjoying shooting my new gun.
Here is a 50yard iron sights using just the strap wrapped around my elbow for stability. I like the way it shoots and the 5.56 American Eagle 55gr. ammo does the trick.

I did decide to install some sort of scope and had a cheap Leapers red/green dot that I mounted using a handle mounting system that has a picatinny rail. Here is the picture. I have a much better 4x12x50 I plan to mount later to find out wht this carbine is really capable of in accuracy.

I also picked up a XM15-E2S, I ordered and received a .22 kit for it.

Black Dog Machine LLC - High Capacity Magazines for Ciener© & Olympic M261 kits with full body 27 round mags.

It is a blast and saves alot of money, Kit will pay for it self.

I recently added a few things to mine. Changed out the grip to one from Magpul that has the integral raduised trigger guard. Offers a little more room for a gloved finger. I also picked up 7 of the much touted PMAG brand magazines. Got them for a steal at a local gunshow. Also install my G2 flashlight in the tactical mount that attaches to the FSB. I think I am done with my Bushy.

A stock saddle, a better sling, and a comfort grip for more comfort. Ammo (as much as you can afford to start with) w/ extra mags for teotwawk.

This is to start with. Learn to use what you already have, cause if zombie rise up, anything w/ batteries will last but only so long.

As you have more money to burn: optics, lasers, flashlights, free float rails. These items can be expensive (and I emphasize can be, depending on what is chosen) for more fun w/ your rifle.
