So about eight months ago, I decided it was time to build my first AR-15. I started with a Stag stripped lower, a left hand upper (made by a guy that the folks at Noveske suggested), Noveske 18" Recon barrel, Larue quadrail, Larue BUIS (front and rear), Magpul CTR stock, Magpul pistol grip and a DPMS parts kit.
I was surprised that it went fairly smoothly. There is a ton of information on the internet and plenty of forums to guide you through the process. I didn't really keep track of how long it took but I would guess around 20 hours. I'm really glad that I decided to build it when I did. It sounds like parts are getting fairly difficult to come by at the current time.

So, slightly off thread.. I am biding my time now for some availability of a stripped AR 15 lower receiver so I can build my hog rifle. When we had the AWB in the Clinton era weren't these ARs still available? they just were limited by the magazines? perhaps a few more restrictions?.. at that time I was not interested in the AR 15 so didn't pay any attention. If the AR is "outlawed" that seems like it would put a bunch of companies out of business. I don't have the assault weapon description memorized but I know a pistol grip was one. Didn't they learn that the last ban did no good? What crimes were committed with AR's? How about banning cars, they kill more people than anything else.
The first AWB had to do with cosmetics,you couldn't have a flash suppressor, bayonet lug ,pistol grip,collapsible stock,or mag capacity over 10 rounds,To be ban compliant you could only have like 2 of the evil features,so there were no flash suppressors and the stocks were pinned in place
