    AR's & AK's but what about ...

What about the FAL's ? I see a lot of threads about people wanting to get the AR and AK before they are banned but I really think a lot of people are missing a great rifle in the FAL. I have a DSA SA58 and it is fantastic. There are carbine models, full sized models, entry models, etc. If there truly will be a ban, it would be a shame to overlook these fine guns and miss an opportunity to own one. Here's a pic of mine, which will soon sport the para folding stock and go from a 50.00 to a 50.61 model.

Don't overlook a great gun, folks.

Concur. I have two of these now and they are by far my favorite rifle in my collection. While the DSA certainly is the best of the bunch it's also priced like it. The other FAL's out there aren't exactly terrible. To my knowledge/experience there isn't a "bad" choice here.

Thanks fellas. There are a lot of good FAL's out there. The DSA's (and Imbels) are premium but I had an Enterprise build that would shoot great. Sold it a while back and actually miss it. FAL's can be had in all types of configurations and have served the militaries of the world.

I agree that the FAL is a fine weapon - (I believe the first one I ever saw was being carried by a British soldier in the Gulf War) - as are any of the HK G3 family. They are true MBRs (main battle rifles), in a caliber that can turn cover into concealment in a hurry, but alas I have yet to avail myself of one.

The only reason I never bought one is because I have an uncontrollable need to stockpile ammuntion for my "evil" rifles. I can afford to buy 1000 round lots of 7.62x39 and 5.56, but not 7.62x51. It's just too expensive for my humble budget. I keep somewhere just over 250 rounds for my bolt rifle, but if I had a FAL I would want over 1000 rounds minimum, plus mags etc. Maybe someday.

BTW- if you are not familiar with Jim, over at survivalblog.com - the FAL variants are what he has suggested for the last few years as the perfect TEOTWAKI survival rifle. Partially becuase repair parts kits and magazines are much cheaper than other .308 rifles like the G3 or M-14.

I have been thinking about something like that for years. I already have a .308 bolt rifle and a good .308 battle rifle would be a nice addition to the collection.

I hear ya Sarge. That 7.62 is some high-dollar stuff. Luckily I still have several cases of Hirtenberger from several years ago that I stuck back when it was $180.00 a thousand delivered. Prices today are crazy.

    Very nice, indeed.

So many choices, so little time.

Pretty simple why - I can afford the gun, but no ammo to feed it.

I can afford an AR AND ammo to feed it - for a while.

I got a CETME off my buddy from work, he had a dozen mags, bayonet, and a tin of ammo for it and at a fantastic price.
