    AR-15 5rd Mag conversion

Anyone out there know if I can convert my 5rd (limited) AR-15 mag back to the original 20rd capacity? I have two of these and would like to make them back to the 20rd version. Thanks, for any info.

Depends on how it was done. If there are notches in the side with the walls punched in to stop the follower you would probably be better off just buying new. If there is a long tab on the bottom of the follower ( like my old Norinco M-14 mag) you could either cut that off or better yet replace with a magpul anti tilt follower.

My bad. I just re-read it.

I thought you were talking about a post-ban, fixed capacity lower.

    20 conversion

If its like the original 5 round mags that came from Colt that were made from blocked 20 round magazines, it's easy. If you have a rivit on the bottom of the magazine, drill it out. Press in the locking spring and carefully slide off the base plate (beware of springs, wear safety glasses, don't run with scissors, etc). The magazine spring sits in a bent piece of metal shaped like a U. The top of the U keeps the follower from coming down and limits the mag to 5. Remove that piece of metal and mail it to Obama, clean the inside of the mag (formerly imposible to do) and reassemble.

I think that was funny, but the secret service may not be very amused with the "gun parts" being sent to Obama.....

Do it anonymously. Wear gloves. Send it from an airport or train station.

Yes, Superhouse, my two mags have the Colt logo on the bottom and there is a small rivet; just as you described. I don't see any kind of notches on the side to block the follower. I'm going to try it. Thanks for the tip.
ps. I think it would be best if I just threw away the parts drilled out......LOL

    Magazine

    Glad to help.

And perhaps Mr. Obama wouldn't apreciate the gift. I'll take the part, or you could save it in case you need a magazine for hunting. Don't toss them.

    find an national guard base.
go to the property disposal office.
buy a ton of them for a few bucks.
