Pricing question: Vang Comp
I'm not very in touch with the shotgun market, so can anyone give me a ballpark for how much a Vang Comp 590A1 goes for these days? Options to include:
Parkerized 18 1/2" Barrel with Vang Comp System
All Metal Trigger Group
VCS Aluminum Oversized Safety
Thanks for the any assist.

Vang Comp 590A1
about $850 last time I checked. I like the barrel and safety, not sure the all metal trigger group is that important. Hans barrels are very good and his metal working is first class. I had him do a M1-S90 barrel for me many years ago and it still is a great shooter.

Thanks for the reply, Bob. Do you really feel the VCS significantly reduces the felt recoil?

No I do not, overall it is very difficult to reduce recoil in a low VE weapon. There might be a very slight decrease in felt recoil by lengthening the forcing cone. Reducing the amount of propellant, decreasing the weight of shot or increase the weight of the weapon are about all you can do to change the recoil pulse of a scattergun.
The thing that Vang barrels REALLY do is reduce the amount the muzzle climbs during firing. This is very significant when completing firing multiple shells quickly.
Looks like the price has gone down by XD in SC post, thats great!

Any other aftermarket goodies anyone would add to this to make it an even better HD shotty?

Van Comp shotguns for civilians are generally for people wanting a shotgun put together with all the goodies for use from HD to hunting brown bears. The guess work is taken out of the equation for people not wanting to do it themselves.
I realize there are many forum members that can put together similar shotguns for less money but many people prefer to go the easier route and let someone else do it for them.
Of course they're expensive! Hans and his products are known world wide and I liken it to the difference in driving an expensive sports car or a Chevy or Kia. If you want to play you have to pay like all other premium products.

In most cases, I'd like to modify my own stuff (cars, guns, etc.). But I'd get the VC safety anyways. And to my limited knowledge, Hans' ported barrel is fairly unique, no? I'd probably get that separately as well if it didn't already come 'pre-packaged'.
Anyway, I assume there are many other things I could do to it. And that was my previous question. What else could I add to it to make it an even better HD shotty?

Hey Bonehead, This is Cody from Vang Comp Systems, Inc.
The Mossberg 590A1 listed on our website is an AWESOME HD weapon. And the recoil in said gun is reduced so that it feels like a 20 ga.
As far as the upgrades, I would add the following:
A Tac-Star 6 shot side saddle (to carry extra shells)
XS tritium front sight (so it glows in the dark)
VCS 1 shot tube extension (obvious reason)
And if you like, a Surefire 6v foreend light
There you have it, a fairly inexpensive and extremely durable HD shotty.

I believe there is notable overall recoil reduction with VC barrels, but it has been so long since I fired a non-Vang-comped barrel, I am not sure. The suddenness of the jolt is certainly reduced, more like a gradual shove, IMHO. I do have a standard barrel put away; perhaps I will experiment soon. I acquired my first Vang barrel during a time I could not use slugs on duty, just 00 or 4 buck, and I wanted the tighter patterns. (I must purchase my own duty weapons.) I really do like the big-dome-head Vang safety, though of course that is on an 870, not a Mossberg.
