Question AR15: buy one of these, or wait?

Guys, I have 2 AR15s available to me, at what is probably a fair price, but neither of them are the 'one' I want.

1 is an Olympic Arms Plinker model. I can get it for about $600 almost new condition. Some young 21 y.o. decide to buy it a few months ago, and has now decided he really didn't need it or want it. He says he shot exactly 1 magazine through it, and ammo is too expensive for it.

The other is a Bushmaster XM15-E2S. I can get it for about $925 w/ 4 mags. This one is owned by a retired Marine, and he said his safe is just too full, so it can go. He said it has 10 magazines through it. I believe him. He left it with me to drool over.

I'd love to buy an AR right now, but both of these have the non removable carry handle. My plan is to have optics mounted to mine, so neither is the preferred choice, but any is better than none right now, isn't it??

Should I buy one of these just to have one, or continue to wait for the model I am looking for, hoping I can find one in the near future?

It is possible to mount optics to the carry handle. You can also come back later on and just buy a new flat top upper to add to what you have.

A $600 gun plus a flat top upper is the same price as a whole gun normally is now

True, but then of course I'd have to update the trigger and some other parts....

Maybe I should add, my taste in AR starts with LWRC, LMT, then RRA.

I think that you could still get a BushMaster with a detachable handle (flat top) for that same money...new!

I say get the Bushy. I am really fond of A2 uppers myself. And the Mags are worth like almost $20 each too so figure your getting three extras, no sales tax and no transfer fee.

Could might be too strong a word these days. Perhaps should... depending on your locale.

to add to that, the Last simple Bushmaster A2 rifle I saw in a gun shop (three weeks back) was $899.99. Then tax and with just the one mag. So... I thought that was about as good as it gets now a days so.

Based on what I have read in the past, get the Bushmaster before someone else does.

This Bushmaster isn't available to anyone else. I have it in my possession, and no one else knows it's for sale.

Get the Bushmaster and realize that even the small manufacturers are on a six month wait at this point. The fact that you're able to actually lay hands on the rifle you're paying for IMMEDIATELY is a plus. That and being owned by a Marine means you're inheriting a well-cared-for weapon.

Basically, all lowers are the same (I know, I know, blasphemy, right?). The other AR is something I'd pick up just because you'll be able to sell it for a profit SOON.
