Wife said buy a shotgun for my birthday...

Well, the wifey gave me a choice... a $500 watch or $500 gun for my birthday.

Since I can't wear a watch at work, and my cell phone tells the time... Guess what I chose.

I'm currently looking at a Mossberg 590A1 with the ghost rings or a Remmy 870 with the Knoxx stock... unless someone else has a better selection.

Since both are around 500 bucks (less I believe...) my options are open. My local candy store has both in stock (well...no Knoxx stock but a foldable...)

Any suggestions? Before the wife changes her mind....

I prefer an 870P with a walnut stock, I'm not a huge fan of the knoxx stocks. If I cant have one of those, I'd take the 590a1.

    I'd go for the M590.

I'm looking for a "social" shotgun, and I'm pretty sure the M590 has won out over my #2--Benelli Nova tactical.

It's the bayonet lug, you see. For close encounters.

The Mossberg is your best bet.

    Find a Winchester 1300 Defender.

    You will not be disappointed.

    Second option is an 870.

I can not stand the Mossy action. Have 2, wouldn't get another.

I have had both brands and prefer the mossberg...and would swap mine for the marine in a heartbeat with the climate we have here

I'd assume not. Might as well get a shotgun (like the 870P ) than an expensive watch you can't even show off at work.

Well, I "could" take it to work without getting into trouble from the boss. But climbing in and out of small airplanes and helicopters would be a PITA with a shotty slung over my shoulder. I bet it would keep the annoying student pilots away.

I called a few stores today to compare prices. My favorite shop so far has the best prices and has 1 of each used (to test) since I want a new one. They don't have the 870 tactical, but they have a few other options.

i would go with the remington 870. i would look for a used one. then i would shoot it to get the feel. then look at the after markets parts to see what i would buy to dress it up. you might find that you will be under the $500 when it is all done.

    Nice!!

When I was instructing in float planes, I always had a fishing pole and a shotgun in the baggage and a Marine K-Bar and a jack-the-ripper under the panel. Required equipment as far as I'm concerned.
