Are there any other 1x sights that can hold a candle to AimPoint's battery life?
I'm currently building a new AR for myself, and I've been looking for a good optic to put on it.
This rifle will spend most of its life in my safe, but if I do have to grab it and head out the door (in the event of a hurricane, for example), I don't want to have to turn on the sight or worry about whether its batteries are low. I just want it to be ready and waiting.
Aimpoints and ACOG's are the only sights I've found that can be left on almost indefinitely. Yeah, 10yrs isn't exactly a lifetime, but I can handle replacing a battery once every decade when I replace my medical supplies, etc anyway.
I've never owned an aimpoint, but I've shot a couple, as well as other similar knockoffs, and I just don't like the lone red dot reticle. It's harder for my eye to find on complex backgrounds and the 4MOA dot is a bit imprecise to shoot further away, in my opinion. The ACOG chevron reticle is a little better, but they are all magnified, which I do not want.
I'm most comfortable with an EOTech style ring-and-dot or Bushnell's T-Dot reticle. I really like this guy's 1-4x, but they're impossible to find for the present and don't seem to have any better battery life than the cheap knockoffs.
The battery life is the important thing for me. So, what options are out there that can offer multi-year always on battery life with some more variety in reticle choice? I'm not opposed to a magnified optic so long as it can be used in 1x as well. The Nightforce 1-4x NSX looked promising until I found out it will go dead within a couple of weeks if left on.
