AR magazines - What would you suggest other than now impossible to procure PMags

Quite simply I need to build a new AR format kit to support the 556 I bought.

My handgun kit, which literally is a kit, has everything I could ever need from an armorers tool to many mags in .45 ACP and 9MM.
So now I'm $tarting over again and my first item of concern is magazines. PMags were the top of my must get list but basically all supplier sources are all dried up.

I have zero interest in paying money for USGI mags only to spend more money gutting them to the shell and replacing the internals with extra power springs and 'green' followers with anti-tilt et. al. I don't have time for that nor do I wish to spend coin just to dump 2/3 of it's components so as to spend even more coin.

So you AR guys that have been there and done that, what mags are out there would you suggest and do use that are durable, long lasting, duty/combat grade (this will be my 3 Gun competition purposed carbine), and that do not cost $50 per mag like the HK 5.56 mag that is supposed to be top drawer (like the PMag) but cost as much as a boob job to buy.

    Thanks for your help!

Buy what you can for crappy green follower mags and then convert them to anti-tilt, you shouldn't have to replace the springs. I know it sucks, but its easy.

Bushmaster has the new followers in stock for $1.95
    Magazines & Accessories

MagPul has them in a 3 Pack for $5.95
    Enhanced Self Leveling Follower Gen III 5.56 NATO 3 pack [MAG110] - $5.95 : ++ Magpul Industries ++

Keep checking your dealers, I have found PMAGs in very strange places across the country and buy all I can.

Personally I find no issues with my black follower USGI mags. Some USGI's I have are black , some are green, they all seem to work just fine in my ARs.

I just kept searching and finally found some PMAGs. It was only $21 for a PMAG w/ window. Considering how hard it is to find them right now, I did not mind paying that much.

Well, I was going to suggest these as I've had excellent luck with them and they're not horribly over-priced but as you can see, they're as available as your P-Mags. I do have 4 of these and they are tough, unique and reliable but not cheap and you'd probably need to call for availability. You may be down to buying whatever you can find available.

Get in touch with ATS Tactical Gear, Bravo Company USA, and G&R Tactical. You should be able to sign up for an automatic email notification when items are in stock, and they continue to remain honest with prices for Pmags ($13-$15 like they should be). USGI mags seem to fluctuate (basic ones, CS spring ones, USGI + magpul follower ones, etc.) and range in price from $12 to $17.

Out of curiosity, is there any particular need to have 20 round mags?

I have some 30 rd Pmags on order and they should arrive before the rest of my AR kit.

Bravo Company USA, Inc. AR-15, M16, M4 Tactical Gear, Parts, Accessories. also has a stock of them right now. they also have a 100 cap limit on each purchase.
I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry.

I keep a few 20 rounders around because the 30 rounders get in the way when using the bi-pod

Good ol' GI mags should serve you fine. I've used them for 20 years without any failures.
