Pictures would help, but it sounds like you need a new receiver cover.

Sounds like the cover is not locked into place properly. It can be a bit tricky aligning the lips at the front and then snap it in the back.

Your top cover isn't riding on top of the bolt carrier is it? It's also quite possible someone did a parts swap with the wrong top cover. I think AK top covers have a four digit number stamped on them. If the four digits do not match the last four of the rifle serial, it's not original. I'm currently using a non-original ribbed top cover on my SLR-95. But it fits fine.

Post pics, if possible. Basically, it will be:
    • the cover isn't seated properly
    • the cover was modified,or isn't spec length
    • or,worst case- the monkey assembling the AK put the rear trunion too far to the rear.

Steve, since you're in BA, if it's more than a seating problem, feel free to give me a PM, and I'll send you my #.

If it is just a ROMY WASR I would put a blob of JB-Weld on it and call it a day.

If it's like my Yugo there is a button on the left side of the cover button. Push it in and the button will pop back to hold the cover in place.
