Cheap Maglite mount for Mossberg 500

I refuse to pay $200 for a tactical light that will light something up 500 meters away, its a shotgun for crying out loud.
I bought a scope mount for a .22 at Walmart (fits on the magazine tube perfectly) and mounted a mini-maglite on my shotgun.
Not bad for $11.

The rings actually go on the magazine tube, the flashlight fits it the view through part of the scope mount.
Forgot to mention that I put the Nite-ize on/off switch on the light. It works great and they have it at Wally World as well.

I had to put a few wraps of electrical tape on the handle to snug it up, but it seems to hold up well.

Can the maglite handle the recoil? The advantage to the tactical lights is they have things to protect against the batteries slamming into the bulb on recoil.

This was the common practice back in the 80's and even early 90's prior to all the specialized special made stuff we have now. I'd take the mag light off for range use, but it shouldnt have any problems with the occasional shot or two.

I bought the gun used, so I took it to shoot skeet at the local club. I got a few funny looks from the old timers, but it got the job done. The light still worked, although I haven't shot it with the light turned on.

Not too shabby. I would replace the light with an LED flashlight to recoil-proof it. As cheap as they are now, there's really no reason to go with an incandescent light, and I think there are even maglight conversion heads available.
I did something similar with my Mossberg, except I used a mag extension tube clamp and angled it to the side to grab onto the light instead of the barrel.

Other than "brighter is better " its a decent idea. I never found the mag lights to be blindingly bright like the weapons lights. I want to be sure of what I am lighting up and not miss seeing something due to lack of light.

OK so this is a really sweet idea but where do i find sight rings with the "figure 8" design. one for the Scope/Maglight and the other for the Barrel/Magazine. Ive been looking all over town and the net for such rings. obviously everyone has the normal rings made for the scope & sight rails. any advise will be awesome. links will probably be best. seeing how i already bought the flashlight and LED conversion kit I'm kinda committed now
