So here is what Ive learned...

You do not have to mod the SKS to use the hi cap Tapco mags as long as you dont mind changing the mag with the bolt open.

You can order a new bolt from Tapco that already has the mod done so you can change mags with the bolt closed.

You can still use the standard 10 round mag with this mod.

The Tapco stock needs to be modified for the SKS that uses the Spike bayonet.

Im gonna buy the SKS this afternoon. I already called my guy to have him put it in the vault for me.

Good choice going with the SKS. I'm sure you'll love it.
When in doubt empty the magazine.

I have a Yugo SKS and Romanian AK. The SKS is my favorite to shoot. The stripper clips work great.

Buy the SK and use the leftover cash for 1000+ rounds of Wolf 124gr. It will gobble those things up.

I prefer the AK over the SKS especially as a SHTF gun BUT an SKS would probably be my second choice (I greatly prefer those old commie guns and their calibers).

In your case I think you made the right choice. A gun is useless without ammo, and 1000 rounds and some stripper clips will suit you well. :)

Cleaned her up this morning. Very dirty. So I used some 220 grit to knock the surface rust off the bolt carrier and I actually too the black paint off the back cover. I then used 400, 800 and then 1000 grit to polich the bolt carrier, the bolt and the back cover. She looks awesome now.

Im gonna order up some ammo today though I have 20 rounds (that aint gonna be enough LOL) and Id like to know where the heck the 5 cent stripper clips are.

Call me ignorant but those stripper clips are reusable? They must be for the price.

Anyway, I got a great gun. I think I shall buy another very soon.

I do have a question? FMJ or HP for ammo. I can get 500 or 1000 rounds locally for a good price.

    $149 for 500 or $279 for 1000

I don't know about 5 cent ones, but here are 20 for $9.95.

    Ammunition To Go : 20 - 7.62x39 Stripper Clips - $9.95

Sometimes you can order ammo on stripper clips pre loaded, like here:

Well I meant 50 cent stripper clips and they are reusable
A real man loves his wife, and places his family as the most important thing in life. Nothing has brought me more peace and content in life than simply being a good husband and father.
