.870- Go for a Marine Magnum

I have a Marine Magnum 870 that I had Hans Vang modify with VangComp.

Love the Nickle finish... no rust worries... NONE.

hassiman, I've already placed my order, but I did give some thought to the Marine version...
As long as I keep the fingerprints wiped off, rust is not a concern in the climate where I live...

Action is very nice...I've never owned a pump shotgun, so much practice in store!

Thanks for all the advice, everyone

Nice Rick - welcome to 870 heaven

Once you get used to the pump action sequence it'll become second nature. Enjoy.

I'm going to pick up a bunch of Snap-Caps to practice with, Chris. I'm also wondering if there are any good videos for Rem 870 handling tips?

No vids I know of Rick but chances are they exist somewhere! Maybe some web searching and/or someone else may know some links.

I just today posted a vid which is excellent, of the Low Recoil Beretta semi - take a peek - links in this thread

Rick - yes the wood is exceptionally nice on my 870 - one reason I said ''snapped'' it up.
for around $100 new you can pick up an 18" bbl for the Mossy and keep the other one for huntin' or if you ever sell or trade it...

dimmak - that is a wise notion - indeed I may well finish up doing that.

Of course my 870 serves pretty much as my ''shortie-shottie'' so could be Mr Mossy will never get altered.

Go with the cheap one, you can buy everything that you will need or want for the 870. This way you will make the gun to your needs and standards.

I have an 870 mag w/ 2 barrels a 28 vented rib that came w/ the gun and a Mossberg 18.5" barrel. All have been parkerized and have a black Bell and Carlson Stock on the shotgun. W/ the plug removed I really don't need an extention. Also with the addition of a elastic stock bandoleer I can carry 5 extra rounds of 00.

The 18.5" barrel is real handy to keep in the house. When I want, I can swap barrels in under a minute. Makes for a very versatile weapon by adding barrel, plug, and swapping chokes.

My wife loves it and keeps it handy. ;)
