Now I know a lot of us have dogs, alarms, etc., but still; it just makes me nervous.....

    Thoughts?
^^^^^^ I used to think I was a light sleeper but I have learned I really am not so I see the point you are making here. That's why my gun is not out in the open at anytime. I need a dog.

Bought a locking police rack off of ebay and installed it in my closet for the 1300 Winchester shotgun. Figure if I need to get to my shotgun, my handguns should provide enough cover.

Kimber cocked/locked and holstered on me when awake, in the nightstand at night. Remington 870 with 00 buck loaded, but not one in chamber, under the side of the bed. No kids at home any longer, so I don't have to worry about little ones.

If one of my four-legged alarms go off and become my first line of defense, then they'll give me plenty of time to dial 911 and grab something to fend off any intruders, till the LEO show up.

With the Saf-Sleeper, the shotgun hangs on the side of the bed, and is hidden by the comforter/sheets on the bed.
I have no children, and none come into my home (if I can help it)
    I hae an alarm system
They'd have to get through a door or window, and that won't happen quietly
they'd have to get into my room without me waking, and I am a light sleeper
I am not the only person in my house who sleeps armed, and they'd have to simultaneously eliminate 3 of us, at opposite corners of the house to succeed.

I'm not worried about soemone reaching my gun before I do. It's literally at arm's reach, as is my handgun, with the bedside holsters.

Don't have a shotgun, yet, but when I go to bed I put one of my handguns on a nightstand shelf behind a bag I keep all my medicine in, within easy reach. My instructor said don't leave it laying out in the open because the BG might get to it before you can. I don't have any dogs to alert me, but do have some simple alarms on the windows.

I got mine some time ago, and a couple of their pistol cases, just by a Google search and picking the lowest price/shipping combo. I've got 3 V-Lines and have zero comlaints.
