Got to spend some more time with the new Mossberg 590a1 this afternoon.

Shot some Federal Power-shock 00 buck, Federal Vital-Shock flight control 00 buck, Federal Tactical slugs, and Remington managed-recoil 00 buck along with with Federal General Purpose #8 shot (just for fun stuff).

The Power-shock gave about a 5" spread at 15 yards. With the Vital-Shock's I fired five round at an 8" paper plate. All 45 pellets stayed within a 6 1/2" circle. The Tactical slugs were dead-on accurate leaving a 3" diameter hole after 10 rounds from 20 yards.

The general purpose rounds were used to shred the plates and did a fine job indeed!

Recoil even with the full load slugs was not bad. I do have a shock absorbing pad on the stock which does make a big difference. Rapid follow-up shoots are absolutely no problem.

BTW, the weapon is otherwise 100% stock with only the front bead for sighting.

Great pump, I have the Mossberg Maverick 88, basically the same except for the location of the safety I believe. I did change the stock out on mine.

Very Nice, I just got the same gun and I'm going to the range today for the first time. After reading this post I'm near foaming at the mouth!
