Stag Arms Model 2..

I'm fairly new to the AR world (Outside of shooting in the Military-Air Force), and picked up a Stag Arms Model 2 stamped 5.56 on the receiver, and barrel. It seems to be a great starter rifle with some basic features. My question is: Can this safely shoot a Rem 223 round like you see at Wal Mart in the ammo section? I did pick-up three boxes of 5.56 NATO with the rifle purchase, but if in a pinch, and you have to buy, it's always good to have options.. I'll do my best to post pic's. in a few as I know everyone likes pic's.

Also, what is everyones impressions of this rifle? Is it a decent starter, or did I purchase a dud.. You get the idea..

Yes it can fire .223 or 5.56mm X45. I own a Stag 2L and like it very much. While it may not be Top tier it works , works well and suits me just fine.

Thanks, that's great news to hear! I just now learned also that the "L" is for a left handed shooter. I must be under a rock or something..

The 5.56 round is a little more robust than the .223. It is a BAD idea to shoot 5.56 out of a barrel that is for .223 (the barrel can buckle under the extra stress), but the 5.56 barrel can shoot either.
