If you like the rail system on the 6940 get that - it's a monolithic upper receiver which means the rail is part of that. There's no way to get that exact rail system on the 6920 - and besides... that upper/rail is basically the only difference between the two rifles.

If you want a different rail system, then you'd have to find the one you want and see what it costs to install it... All that said, I really think for a first AR a plain jane like the 6920 will probably suit you fine.

T-Marks refer the markings that are at each point on the rail - this enables people who change the way their rifle is configured frequently to do so with consistent repeatably.

the only thing i would want to change on the 6920 is to change the heatshiled to one that is like the 6940 so you can mount things on it, how much would one of those cost and any link to the same heatshield as the 6940 has on it?

You cannot just take the rail system (not a heatshield - it's for mounting accessories) off the 6940 because it is (at least on the top) one piece with the upper receiver. If you want that rail system get the 6940. If you want a plain-jane KISS carbine, get the 6920. The rail system and sights are literally THE ONLY DIFFERENCE between the two.
