I've been wanting a M1 Carbine to add to the collection for some time but was reluctant to fork over the bucks for an Auto Ordinance and with the CMP guns hovering around $500.00 for a rack grade and $600.00 for service grade, I decided to take a chance on this one.
A friend of mine was helping a widow dispose of some firearms and there were three M1 Carbines. Two were folding stock paratrooper models and one was the wood stock. All were civilian production Iver-Johnsons. Since I wasn't crazy about the folding stock versions, I bought the wood stock version. The gun appears to be unfired as there are virtually no markings on the feed ramp or the bolt face. Add to that, the magazine was still in the red, sealed factory cellophane.
Don't care much for the light colored stock, but that can be corrected. I know most guys like the wood barrel shroud, but I actually kind of like the ventilated metal shroud. When I knew I was going to be able to get it, I ordered 200 rounds of Sellier and Bellot ammo from Cabela's before they sold out. Now I just need to get it cleaned up good and head to the range to see if everything works.
That's one sweet looking weapon.
What happened to the Para models?

Nifty neato! M1 Carbines are as handy as a pocket on a shirt.
Please show more photos if you get around to darkening the stock.
Very nice carbine, the M1.
Buddy of mine just took possession of an Iver Johnson, his wifes' father gun, and we had a great time at the range plinking with the iron sights. Very accurate, little recoil.
One thing to watch, he had two original (IJ) mags and bought two brand new magazines from ProMag...a 15 and 20 rounder. Both ProMags are causing failure to feed and some double feed problems...and are tight to fit, and it takes some pulling to release them. YMMV...(just thought I would give a heads up.)
The IJ 15 round mags work great. Right now, when you can find it, a 50 round box of ammo is like $35...20 rounds is closer to $15.

5 of these. From everything I've been able to find on the net, the Korean manufacture steel magazines are very high quality. At $10.95 each, I didn't think I could beat the price.
The Sellier and Bellot ammo I got from Cabela's was $21.99 per box of 50. Reloadable cases. A lot higher than carbine ammo was a year ago but still better than some of the ridiculous prices I see some getting on the internet. This won't be a high volume shooter, but when component supplies start to replenish themselves, I'll pick up a 1000 or so rounds of brass and load some ammo to put on the shelf.
Very, very pretty!

Let me know if they work / feed for ya...I'll let my friend know !!
And you're finding good prices on the ammo !! He was using Winchester and MagTech...and he did find some cheap Wolf, but he hasn't tried firing it yet.

That is one fine rifle you have. I'm kind of interested in buying one now.
