I have a Maverick 88 12ga shotty.
It has a bird plug in it. How the heck do you get the end of the tube off to take the plug out?
Do I have to get a special tool to get that plug out????

This might help.
I'm out on super slow dial-up right now so I can't watch it.
YouTube - Mossberg Maverick 88 Field Disassembly
Unscrew the highlighted barrel screw and take off the barrel. Point the action down (stock up) and it should fall out. Gently shake it if you need to.

Even on super slow dial up Qk was too fast for me.

the dis-assembly I can do, what I'm looking for is to remove the cap at the end of the magazine so I can remove the duck/bird plug.
The Duck plug only allows 2 rounds in the magazine (with one on the pipe) to make it legal for duck hunting in NYS.
I would like to remove that plug so I can get 5 rounds in the gun...again.![]()

Yes. If you take the barrel screw off, there is a threaded hole in the end of the magazine. That cap has to come off to get the duck plug out.........
or the entire magazine must come off to get the duck plug out? I don't know which?
Thats why I asked
Is there a special tool to get the mag off or that cap???

There shouldn't be the need for any special tools to remove the barrel. Like it is posted above, remove the front of the mag tube by unscrewing the knurled mag knob counter clock wise, when this is done pull the barrel straight forward and remove it (barrel) you should then be able to dump out the wooden dowel out of the end of the mag tube. Reassemble in reverse order.
lets ignore the barrel, Barrel screw.
In need to get the Magazine apart, does anyone know how to do that????

Copied from another forum:
1. Make sure your weapon is clear and unloaded.
2. Check twice
3. Unscrew the barrel retainer on the end of the magazine.
4. Remove said barrel.
5. Point firearm down and shake vigorously.
6. The wooden dowel should start to come out of the threaded hole that the barrel retainer screws into.
Mossberg's plug is nothing more than a wooden dowel with a rubber o-ring on each end.

HELLO, my name is JMAC and I'm a idiot
I shook this stupid gun until the one brain cell I have left was shaking but the plug would not come out.
So I took the gun apart and shook the crap out of it and nothing.
So I decide to put the gun in the vice and take the Magazine out completely.
After I locked the gun in the vice I look at the Mag-cap and guess what is sticking out about ¼"
I'm an idiot
THANX TO ALL THAT HELPED, maybe next time I'll use my Oxy-Acetylene torch and just burn it out![]()
sorry for being stupid
