We should regularly remind ourselves (and EACHOTHER) that we are sooooo lucky to have the countless options of quality, affordable, sub MOA rifles available to us! Remington, Winchester, Savage, FN, Browning, Thompson Center, Kimber, Ruger, with the list going on and on and on...
Not so many years ago (I'm old...so, I remember.) it took wide bucks & custom work to acheive the same level of accuracy that is easily & inexpensively available today right off the shelf. Congrats on your new addition!

My basic 700 bld in .308 shoots .75 inch groups on a regular basis. I get the occasional sub half in group. Most 700s shoot very well out of the box. I'd like to try a "higher end" model.
It is surely true that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. Nor can you make them grateful for your efforts.

Just like 9mm's for pistol, a .223 bolt action rifle is great to learn on. Effective out to 300+ yards, low recoil for long range sessions, and cheap ammo. I had a Remington 700 varmint with bipod that was a favorite.

If I was buying one now, it would be one of the Savage models with the nice trigger. In fact, I'd like to be buying one soon...
