    Mini 14 Expertise?

    Howdy all,

I bought a mini 14 a few months ago. It came without a rear sight which was ok by me as I wanted to put a red-dot type on it anyway. Well, now i want to add the rear sight and so bought one on line. There seems to be a part missing as the sight does not fit the rifle.

    To whit......

    Place for sight.......

    Close up of same.....

    Top View......

    Sight I purchased......

I have looked at the schematic on the ruger site, but cannot determine from their photos what I need.

I realize that the sighting system I have on it now will have to be removed to install the peep-sight, but that's OK.

Thanks in advance for any information you can give me.

I see two holes with threads, but you have no threaded screws...

What's the first three digits of the serial number?

My sight looks nothing like that, you have a mini 14 "Ranch" rifle and I believe the sights are different,My sight has a weaver type base with a flat part in front the screw goes thru to lock the sight down.I will try to get a picture

    OK, bad news.

There are two different versions of the Mini-14. You bought the wrong rear sight.

Even if you couldn't we'd make an exception in this case.

Where'd you buy the sight from?

Yep in the future remember you have a Mini 14 "RANCH" rifle, they came with a special set of scope rings that are curved on the bottom to attach a scope which is what the half moon cutouts on the receiver are for

Don't feel like the long ranger. I bet we all have a shelf in a closet that holds the things we bought that wouldn't work!

    just a shelf

It seems my whole garage has come to the fate of holding all the stuff that didn't work there anymore but I'm holding onto because it might work somewhere else.

At least it only took a rear sight to learn the difference.

Is it located next to the holster box?

The person that sold it to you on Ebay probably bought it on Ebay for his Ruger Ranch.
It's probably been listed and resold 5 times already.

Hey man the advertisement looked good, one holster that you could switch out for different types of carry, until you actually wear one and start printing like the Chicago Tribune
