Calling Yugo 59/66 Owners
I picked one up some time ago still packed in cosmoline and decided to wring it out this summer. I never owned a SKS before and was looking for stripper clips, correct sling and any other du-dads I should pick up. What suggestions do you have about equipment and the rifle itself?
BTW I found a guy on the web that makes a tennis ball launcher for the standard NATO grenade launcher and almost can't resist that tacticaly fun option.

I had one and going to bu another. But check www.surplusrifle.com they have alot of info on sks rifles. You can only do so much to a yugo without it becoming illegal. They have alot of info on the site. Good luck and let us know how it shoots. Sixgun

Try www.aimsurplus.com. They usually have fairly cheap upgrades to the SKS as well as stocks, slings, etc. Stripper clips are cheap and are a must unless you put a duck-bill magazine on it.
In my experience, the detachable duck-bill mag's are not reliable - but makes the rifle look tacti-cool if that's what you're into. I like my SKS's pretty much stock the way they come.
The receiver mounted scopes are what they cost - cheap. Some folks like them. If I was going to scope an SKS, I would get a scout scope mount that replaced the rear sight leaf and mount a pistol scope on it (you'll have to research the correct eye relief.)
Surplus ammo is getting more difficult to come by and the stuff you do find is more expensive than it used to be. It's getting to the point where I may break down and get some reloading dies for 7.62x39.
One other thing - the stocks tend to be fairly short for most folks. If you want to keep the original stock, a slip on pachmayer recoil pad usually provides enough length to be comfortable.

I had a hard time finding stripper clips for mine...finally had to go through E-bay to buy 20 (but the vendor threw in a free bandolier!)

Ooops! My mistake...I was thinking about my Savage Enfield stripper clips
I picked up SKS strippers at J&G Sales in Prescott, Az.

Have a Yugo 59. It's a fine firearm, and cheap to shoot.
Some day, I may get a 59/66, but that would be a 3rd SKS. Too many other things ahead of that.
I believe I got the stripper clips from CTD. Those clips, a sling, & ammo is just about all you need.
