My dads home defense rifle is odd. A .303 Enfield.
I know not what this "overkill" means.

Honing the knives, Cleaning the longguns, Stocking up ammo.

I have a Marlin .357 magnum lever action carbine rifle that I have used for HD. Typically I use handguns.

I have an old Parker Hale double rifle in .375H&H
Its in the defensive line up because my grandfather used it successfully as a defense gun in the 1930's. Its also in the "will never sell" lineup.

Ready at hand? A Glock-36 and a 12 ga coach gun...nothing old, except not many use the 'old' coach gun because they prefer a pump.

My primary HD has been a Winchester 30-30 since I was 16. That is 40+ years. I now also have a Marlin 44Mag in my bed room. I keep the 30-30 in another room. I keep a AK with 30 round Mag in my Office. My EDC Kimber will hold me till I can reach one of the other firearms.

I keep a Winchester Model 1907 .351 in a handy corner, loaded with a 10-round "police" magazine full of soft points. Very reliable function and potent with its 180 grain bullet at 1900 fps.

Not mine but strangest Ive ever seen was a 600 nitro express double barrel rifle under the bed.... yes, THAT nitro express. I do not nor did I even bother to ASK why this man had THAT rifle under the bed LOADED, but all I know is anyone who breaks in will NOT be happy when a 20 pound rifle of that caliber is fired in their direction. Here are pics of the cartridge for those that NEVER saw one. And before someone asks, YES they get bigger, Holland and Holland makes a 700.

I never believed in the word "overkill" until I saw this.

Steve those pics look more like 4 bore ammo.

I used to have a 94 trapper in .45 colt. Very handy.
