Anyone put an Aimpoint on a Remington 750?
I recently picked up a 750 in 30.06 to bring back some memories form my youth. I used to love the open sights on the 740 my father used to have. I took my 750 out to zero it with the target @ 100 yards. I think my eyes do not work as good as they used to. I had a hard time focusing on the sights and the target at the same time. I wasn't getting a consistent sight picture, which wasn't helping my groups any :)
Anyway, I'm thinking an Aimpoint 9000SC might be a good quick sight for this rifle, as an alternative to the iron sights.
Does anyone have a setup like this? If so, how does it work for you?
Thanks

Well,
I ordered one and slapped it on. I don't think it looks too gawky. I'll see about getting it zeroed within the next week.

That's your problem. Focus your EYE on the front sight post and getting it centered in the fuzzy rear sight - focus ONLY on the front sight post.
Use your MIND to move the front sight post that your EYE is focusing on over your target.
Your eye can only focus on one distance at a time, and you'll never be able to get a clear picture of all of it - even with good eyes.

Thanks.
I guess my first group sizes were partially due to a bad shooting position which was prone, unsupported at a funky angle in my pickup truck bed. The fact that bullets weren't chambering from the left side of the magazine didn't help me retain any sight picture, either. I tweaked the mag lip a little and now it feeds like a champ with no FTF.
I actually went back out to shoot it last weekend with my workmate bench a sandbag and a chair. That helped a lot. It was still sort of hard for me to see the center of my target at 100 yards, but I was putting most of them within the 5" circle.
I can't wait to get back out there. I think having both eyes open and the 1X mag on the Aimpoint will help. We'll see.

You'll find that the dot is either 2moa or 4moa. With the 4moa dot I was making consistent hits on a 3.5ish moa target at 500 yards, no magnification.
It does help, but it will not replace good foundations of shooting.
Seriously, go attend an appleseed shoot. It was the best $75 I've ever invested in training. Period.

Nothing wrong with my technique, I just can't see as good as I used to.
