Good to hear. My AR10 did have one. I imagine if you keep your rifles clean there's no need for a Forward Assist. It was prolly added for combat situations. I have seen news reels of GI's banging the FA on M16's in combat. It IS there for a reason.

I kept the DSA Fal Congo and sold the AR10. HEY, have we heard back from the OP on his decision?

Without going on ad nauseum about AR10s vs. AR15s and DI vs. Piston driven weapons, the original version as designed by Eugene Stoner did not need or have a forward assist because it was in .308, the original version of the .223 rifle did not need it because of the original powder used. I am in the camp that believes that the FA on AR10s now being built is more of a marketing item than a true issue of the system itself.

    YMMV.

Get an AK 74 and 5000 rounds of 5.45 x 39 mm ammo for the price of a tricked AR-15 plus the AK is a more durable rifle.

What malfunction or stoppage will the FA clear that working the charging handle won't?

If I was using my AR 15 in an emergency situation and the bolt didn't fully close on a round I'd be for just yanking that thing out of there rather than taking the chance of compounding the problem by forcing it with a "forward assist" and possibly jamming the rifle.

I've been thru three carbine training courses and have yet to see anyone use the forward assist. Teats on a boar.
